Headphones for TVs

Anyone who has to turn up their television loud enough to understand every word could easily disturb others: the partner, roommate or neighbor, for example. If this is the case, it is worth buying a TV headphone. This type of headphone is usually characterized by the fact that it offers the best possible speech intelligibility.

In general, you should pay attention to the following important criteria before buying:

1. What connectivity does my TV offer?
Actually, all, even older models, offer a so-called mini-jack or RCA output. The mini jack is often a small picture of a headphone to see. Then you can connect the headset directly or the transmitter, if you have a wireless headset. Be sure to mute the TV’s internal speakers when you plug in the headphones.

2. Which design is perfect for me?
Wired headphones are generally cheaper because they do not need to have expensive wireless transmission tech built in it. However, sometimes the cable can be far too short, which limits the freedom of movement. Wireless headphones work via radio waves or Bluetooth (make sure your TV supports Bluetooth!), which allows free movement in the home.

3. How comfortable is it?
A TV headset must sit comfortably even after several hours of binge watching and it needs to be as light as possible. Do not be afraid to put several headphones in your shopping cart for an extensive testing. Hearing and wearing them in a shop near you only for five minutes is not enough!

Editor's recommendations: TV Headphones

With the Beoplay Portal, Bang & Olufsen has brought a remarkable pair of headphones onto the market. For they understand like no other manufacturer how to combine features such as “hi-fi”, “travel” and “gaming” into such a stylish concept. This is complemented by a choice of materials and manufacturing quality that leaves nothing to be desired. Bang & Olufsen have succeeded in this multi-platform approach – no question about it, and that merits sincere compliments. Nevertheless, they also have to face criticism: For example, the “headphones – app” was often awkward, the noise-cancelling could have been more effective for our taste and if you like to travel, there was simply no adequate transport protection.

The Sennheiser BT T100 is just the right solution for anyone who wants to use headphones primarily to watch lip-synced TV content. However, the codec-side support of the headphones is at least as important and should be clarified before buying the audio transmitter. In addition, the BT T100 can also be used to upgrade home systems and PCs with high-quality codecs and make them virtually wireless.

If you’re looking for Bluetooth headphones with a wide range of uses that sound good, are comfortable to wear and have a long-lasting battery, you might find what you’re looking for in the RP-HD305B from Panasonic. As an alternative to a wireless connection, these all-rounder’s also cut a fine figure when wired up to a hi-fi system.
